World Cup 2010: Kick Off Celebration Concert – Schedule for Thursday Night

If you’re reading this you’ll already know that the FIFA World Cup 2010 begins this Friday June 11 from South Africa. We’ll be bringing you all the news about the opening ceremony proper set to take place on Friday afternoon local time. However before then on June 10, Thursday evening there’s a one off special event called The Kick-Off Celebration Concert.
Africa will have never seen an event of this scale before and it’s set to take place on Thursday evening at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg. There’ll be appearances from football legends past and present, celebrities and of course musical performances, according to FIFA.com. It will be seen by millions worldwide and the 3 hour extravaganza will begin at 8:00 pm local time, that’s 7pm in London, 2pm in New York, and 3am for Tokyo.

All proceeds from the concert will go to “20 Centres for 2010”, the Official Campaign of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, with the idea being to build 20 centres across Africa for education and healthcare. There are dozens of artists including Alicia Keys, the Black Eyed Peas, Hugh Masekela, John Legend, the Mzansi Youth Choir, Shakira, the Soweto Gospel Choir, Angelique Kidjo and many more.
